Why…

GOD WANTS US!!!

While it is beyond our understanding, that is by far the best reason to come to Him.

In His love for us though, He has provided many benefits for us in this relationship with Him…..

1.      Eternal Life – this is the one you hear about most from so many Christians. It makes sense because from our human point of view it is the most pressing – will we spend the rest of eternity in heaven or in hell? While this is so important, it is sometimes hard to really relate to, as we have a hard time imagining eternity. As you’ll see in the next few, God brings us many other benefits right now.

2.  Purpose, direction, and meaning – the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 1:14 “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.” I don’t know about you, but I want to do something with my life that counts! When we are a follower of Jesus Christ, He, as our maker, gives us our reason for living. He tells us what we should be doing. And I’ll tell you, it is NOT a boring, suburban, sleep-go-to-work-watch-TV kind of life! Later on I will talk about the 5 purposes that God has called us to do.

3.   Grace to pull you through life – with all the bad things that happen in life, we sometimes get way too much of a mind-over-matter perspective. We stay out of trouble and accomplish the things we need to do simply by deciding to do those things (or so we think). While good decisions are hugely important in how we will go through life, God’s grace gives power that our decision-making or effort never could. Our relationship with God is initiated by believing what God has done for us and accepting His grace, and our everyday lives are then powered by His grace as well. Galatians 3:3 says “Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?”

God’s grace makes it happen!

4.   Practical guidance – the Bible is chock-full-o-good advice to help us through life. God gives us very useful advice on relationships, marriage, parenting, money, life decisions, and other things. It is not some abstract book that doesn’t really mean anything practically. The Bible shows us how to live a balanced, healthy life, and

then God’s grace and power make it happen!

5.   Sonship to the Almighty God of the Universeimagine being adopted by a king. Suddenly, you belong to a family that is the most wealthy and powerful in the land. Your future is now secure. With God, it is so much greater than it would be with any earthly king. God is the Creator of the Universe! He is all powerful! He is all knowing! He is everywhere at all times! His name in the Old Testament, Yahweh, means “I AM”. We cannot define God – He just IS. But He is also a Being Who loves us and calls us His children.

Wow!
