Get Out and Vote!
I just wanted to
take a moment to encourage anyone reading to get out and vote on Tuesday, November
2. We sometimes take for granted the tremendous privilege (and responsibility)
it is to take part in our government.
I had debated
whether I had wanted to say more, but I figured, heh,
I’ve footed the bill (is that the right expression?) for this site for 6
seasons now, and it’s clearly stated as an UNOFFICIAL website, so, why
not?
I’m certainly
not going to directly try to convince you to vote one way or another. I am just
against the thought of not knowing what it really is that you are voting for.
You get bombarded from all sides every year for sure. I just want to give you
some questions that I think are important to think about. You might be able to
venture a guess at my political leanings if you read me very much, and, if you
couldn’t before, you probably will be able after you see the questions I
pose. Regardless, it is YOU that must search your heart and mind to come up
with these answers, and it is YOU that must decide what to do with those
answers. Bottom line, whether you’re thinking is in line with mine or
not, if you honestly answer these questions to yourself and come up with what
you truly think is right, I definitely want you to get out Tuesday and take
part in this wonderful process that is actually a huge blessing (despite the
scores of very ANNOYING political adds from all angles!)……
Stuff to mull as
you cast your ballot….
1. Do you think the government
has a right to intrude into our private lives the way that they do? (eg, do they have the right to tell
private citizens they must have health insurance?)
2. Given that government
involves telling people what they can and can’t do, and involves taxing
people against their will, do you agree that government is inherently
destructive of personal liberty?
3. What is the bottom line
PURPOSE of government, and should it be allowed to do anything outside of that
purpose?
4. Do you believe that money is
spent more wisely and with more accountability in the private sector or by
government?
5. Do you believe that people
in need are better and more efficiently helped by a government or by private
citizens?
6. Do you believe that the more
power a government has, it becomes more or less corrupt?
7. Do you believe that
government is now trending toward more or less control of your daily life?
8. Based on your answers to the
above, what candidates most closely align with your view on the role of
government in your life?
