Ready to Change Your Life???

If you are ready to commit your life to being a follower of Jesus, I would ask you to do a couple things. First off, it would be good to have a quick read again through the How section, as this lays out the important ideas of our sin and our need for Jesus to pay for that sin. It really gives an overview of the “mechanics” if you will of how to initiate your relationship with God. Secondly I ask you to call out to God and ask Him for that relationship. Here are a couple things to consider when praying to God…..

What’s Important…..

1. True Belief and Intent – it is important that you truly believe that God is Who He says He Is and that He’ll do what He says He’ll do. This also means that this decision is one that is not intended just as a get-out-of-hell-free card. This is a decision that you intend to change your life.

2. An understanding of your need – you must understand that you are a sinner separated from God, and the only reason that you can come to Him is because Jesus took your punishment by dying for you.

Not as Important…..

1. The words you use – this is not some kind of magic spell that you are saying the formula for. Your belief and understanding are what are important, not the words you say. God understands your mind, heart, and thoughts.

2. Your posture – ideally I would love to see people fall to their knees and faces in complete surrender to God. However, I know that you do not yet understand how great and mighty and wondrous our God Is. You are just getting to know Him. Standing, sitting, lying, running, eating, whatever. Just come to Him.

3. Your voice – I have prayed using so many different tones of voice. I pray just by thinking things. I pray in a whisper. I literally scream out to God at times. Sometimes I sing prayers. God hears us. Talk to Him however you feel like you should.

What to pray…..

I would certainly encourage you to say to God what you are thinking. Tell Him, in your words, how you want a relationship with Him, you need His forgiveness, and you want to follow Him. If you are really stuck, I give you the prayer below as a model of what you might say to God. Feel free to use it however, but remember that it is what is going on in YOUR heart and mind that counts.

Dear Jesus, I’ve decided that I want to live life Your way. I want to be a follower of You. I want to have a relationship with You. And I want to spend eternity with You. I have done so much wrong in my life, but I ask that You forgive me of that wrong, since You paid for that when You died for me. I now give my life to You because You have been so good to me. Take it and make me what You would have me to be. Amen.
