For the
4th season in a row, Delhi’s Bulldogs open the season facing the
Bulldogs of Sullivan West. Delhi holds the advantage thus far, having won both
games played in Sullivan County, while the Southern ‘Dogs beat Delhi 2 years ago
at Dave Kelly field.
After a dominant
performance last year, Delhi looks to keep it rolling. Brenton Hood and Nate
Rockefeller each scored 3 TD’s as Delhi overloaded the scoreboard with 62
points. The defense did nearly as well, allowing 42 yards on 28 rushes, and only
one TD, for a 62-6 final. With Hood, Rockefeller, and 3 of 5 linemen returning,
Delhi will look to again dominate the land attack. Sullivan West will try to
tackle better than in last year’s game, and will certainly try to show that last
year’s score was just a week of underachievement for a respectable
team.
Sullivan West lost
their primary ballcarriers, Jim Erlwein and Steve Daley, to graduation. They
return their QB as well as WR Donald Cooper, whose 32 yard reception set up
Sullivan West’s only score last year. If the weather is at all cooperative, look
for Bulldogs South to put the ball in the air a fair amount.
After facing Delhi,
Sullivan West finishes the murderer’s row by facing Walton. With this kind of
schedule to start the season, look for Sullivan West to play with great
intensity and try to overcome the slow starts that have plagued them in the
past.
