No More Dogmeat

One hundred fifty years ago dog was a common meal for Native Americans. Some modern day ‘Dogs look to exact a bit of revenge on Saturday when Delhi takes on the Sidney Warriors at Dave Kelly field.

Sidney comes into the game 2-0 and ranked #1 in Class C following their NYSPHSAA Class C state title last November. Sidney beat Oneonta 31-13 in week 1 and beat Norwich last Friday night 28-19. Sidney QB Parker Umbra ran for 92 yards and passed for 107, as Sidney rolled to over 400 yards of total offense, in contrast from the first week against Oneonta, when the Warriors only put up a little over 200. Mike Burpoe is a leader on both sides of the ball, having put up 150 yards in the 2 games from his FB position, and leading the defense from his inside LB position. Sidney lost nearly all offensive production from last season’s phenomenal team, but seems to be coming along in getting the offense to click and in getting first downs.

After blasting out of the gates with a week 1 victory over Sullivan West, Delhi had more of a fight last week against TriValley, but was still able to control the game and come out up 34-0. Delhi’s defense has so far been superb, allowing just 2 first downs total in the first half between the 2 games. Nate Rockefeller and Brenton Hood have combined for nearly 500 yards in the 2 games, and James Card and Ryan Weale have proven capable of moving the ball effectively as well.

Delhi has not beaten Sidney since the state championship season in 2001, and many in the area are considering this to be the game of the week in Section IV.
