Week 8 Playoff Game
For
the second season in a row, Delhi’s
playoffs start a week early. Delhi faces Oxford on Saturday at
Dave Kelly Field in a game that will decide the division’s 2nd and
final official playoff spot. Both teams come into the game with 5-2 overall
records and 3-1 division records. Both teams lost to Walton. Oxford’s other loss came in week 1, a 20-15
setback against 6-1 Greene.
Oxford has shown some strong
ability to throw the ball. QB Steve Locke has completed 44 of 85 for 669 yards
and 5 TD’s. He has spread the ball all around the
field to numerous receivers. His most frequent targets have been WR Ben Burdick
and TE John Witchella. Locke is also somewhat of a
threat running the ball, picking up 173 yards on 33 carries with 1 TD. Oxford’s primary ground
production comes from Scott Shackelton, who has
rushed for 613 yards on 95 carries, and an impressive 14 TD’s.
Oxford will look to penetrate Delhi’s still somewhat green secondary, and
keep the ‘Dogs honest with Shackelton.
Delhi looks to establish its
running game, something it failed to do early on in the 2 losses against Sidney
and Walton. Nate Rockefeller, Brenton
Hood, and James Card have combined for nearly 1900 rushing yards this season,
and will look to set the tone early.
