Delhi dominated struggling Newark Valley in dismantling them 50-0. While Newark Valley was clearly outmatched, they did show a lot of heart in their hard hitting throughout the game. Delhi was just too strong all over however.
The
defense was the highlight of the day. They allowed one early-game first down
when tailback Brad Allen made a beautiful spin move to avoid the tackle and
picked up 11 yards. That would be all the first downs, however, until NV’s
second to last possession, when they picked up one more first down against
Delhi’s fully substituted defense.
The
offense was nearly as impressive, scoring nearly every time Delhi had the ball.
There were 2 Delhi possessions that didn’t result in TD’s – one at the end of
the first half when time ran out (and Delhi was up 30-0 and not trying to
score), and another on Delhi’s last possession when the ‘Dogs were as deep into
the bench as possible.
Brenton Hood made it 4
consecutive 100 yard rushing games with a 103 yard effort on 11 carries, and
Josh Wake added 3 touchdowns and a 2-point run in tallying 20 of Delhi’s points.
Geoff Rosa continued his defensive scoring spree when he scooped up a blocked
punt and returned it 21 yards for a score.
Delhi’s passing game was
another bright spot as the ‘Dogs were able to work on moving the ball through
the air. Pat O’Connell completed 5 of 7 passes for 57
yards.
Delhi now prepares for the
toughest part of the schedule with games against Walton and Sidney the next 2
weeks.
