Delhi Starts Playoffs a Week
Early
Delhi closes out the regularly scheduled games with a key division matchup against Greene at home on Saturday. Saturday’s winner secures a playoff game at Elmira Heights’s Thomas A. Edison high the following weekend. The loser will most likely play a crossover game against an opponent west of Binghamton, possibly Tioga.
Greene comes into the game at 5-2, including last week’s 2 OT win over Unatego. Greene’s 2 losses were 34-19 to Sidney and 14-7 to a very strong Oxford team. Greene is led by the passing of 4th year QB Kurt Spear, who has thrown for 865 yards this season to a variety of receivers, primarily 6’3” Dan Say and 6’2” Zach Whitaker. The ground game is nearly as effective with 6’2” 245 lb. fullback Keith Savory leading the way with 676 yards on 101 carries. As a team, Greene has rushed for a total of 1591 yards. Delhi last faced this kind of balanced attack 2 weeks ago vs. Sidney, though the good news is that Sidney’s ground game was more about speed, and Greene’s is more about power, which we perhaps match up a bit better against.
Brenton Hood, with 934 yards, will attempt to surpass last year’s total of 1015. Delhi will hope to get a big game out of fullback Nate Rockefeller as well, as rainy weather could bring about an inside struggle on the day.
